GrondTaal was established in 2006 by Gerre van der Kleij. Gerre van der Kleij obtained her BA in Classical Studies at State University Groningen, the Netherlands, followed by an MA in Mediterranean Archaeology at the same university. Ancient Greek and Musicology were her secondary subjects, and she has been a keen amateur musician for many years.

Gerre van der Kleij continued her archaeological and linguistic studies at Binghamton University, New York State, USA, where she graduated with an MA in Anthropology. She subsequently studied Scandinavian Prehistory at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, and carried out research into aspects of the Danish Neolithic while taking Danish classes in the same city.

Gerre van der Kleij took several courses in 'Museums & Education', was active in the Stedelijk Museum Zutphen (municipal museum Zutphen) and worked at the Dutch cultural heritage agency RCE and for a Dutch publishing company, Roodbont. Throughout her professional career she translated numerous texts from English and/or Danish into Dutch for a wide range of clients including museums, universities, archaeological companies and publishers. She also wrote and published papers and columns for the scientific community and for the general public. The latter include a series of 20 short columns on archaeology for the Dutch daily newspaper 'Gelders Dagblad' (now Stentor).

GrondTaal resides in the beautiful medieval town of Zutphen, the Netherlands.
