Background
GrondTaal was established in 2006 by
Gerre van der Kleij. Gerre van der Kleij obtained her BA in Classical
Studies at
State University Groningen, the Netherlands, followed by
an MA in Mediterranean Archaeology at the same university. Ancient
Greek and Musicology were her secondary subjects, and she has been a
keen amateur musician for
many years.
Gerre van der Kleij continued her archaeological and linguistic studies
at
Binghamton
University, New York State, USA, where she graduated with
an MA in Anthropology. She subsequently studied Scandinavian Prehistory
at the
University
of Aarhus, Denmark, and carried out
research into aspects of the Danish Neolithic while
taking Danish classes in the same city.
Gerre van der Kleij took several courses in 'Museums &
Education', was active in the
Stedelijk
Museum Zutphen (municipal museum Zutphen) and worked at the Dutch cultural heritage agency
RCE and for a
Dutch publishing company,
Roodbont.
Throughout her professional career she translated numerous texts
from English and/or Danish into Dutch for a wide range of clients
including museums, universities, archaeological companies and publishers. She also
wrote and
published papers and columns for the scientific community and for the
general public. The latter include a series of
20 short columns on archaeology
for the Dutch daily newspaper 'Gelders Dagblad' (now Stentor).
GrondTaal resides in the beautiful
medieval town of
Zutphen, the Netherlands.
